Apertures are usually the largest single line in a Malta fit-out budget, and the one where the gap between tiers is widest. On our own rate card the same square metre of floor area carries anywhere from €78 to €300 of aperture cost depending on specification — a bigger spread than any other trade.

They are also long-lead. An aluminium system ordered late is one of the few things that can hold up a whole programme on its own, which is why the specification decision belongs early rather than when the walls are ready.

Questions people ask

Why is it priced on floor area rather than per window?

Because at budget stage nobody knows the window schedule yet. Floor area is a reasonable proxy across a whole property, and it is what the calculator can honestly work with before a survey. The quote after the survey is per aperture.

What actually changes between the tiers?

Profile system and thermal performance, glazing specification, the size and weight of what the system can carry, and the ironmongery. The visual difference at the top end is mostly slimmer sightlines and much larger single panes.

How long is the lead time?

Long enough that it needs deciding early — it is the item most likely to hold a programme up if it is left late. The exact lead time depends on the system and is confirmed at quote, not estimated here.
